Term
How is the landing gear extended and retracted?
Definition
An electrically-driven hydraulic pump pressurizes an actuator on each gear, causing the gear to extend or retract.
Term
Can the gear be extended manually if the electrical system fails?
Definition
Yes, using the red gear extension handle.
Term
How much hydraulic pressure is required to retract the gear?
Definition
1400 to 1650 PSI
Term
Is the system always pressurized?
Definition
Yes.
Term
What assists the gear system in maintaining the hydraulic pressure?
Definition
A nitrogen-charged accumulator
Term
Describe gear retraction.
Definition
Place the gear selector in the UP position

This causes the pump to run and the extension solenoid on the gear manifold to close, pressurizing both sides of the actuators. Retraction occurs because the retracting side of the actuator piston has a greater surface area than the extension side.

The actuators release the locking hooks and the gear retracts. When all gear have retracted and closed the up-limit switches, the pump stops running.
Term
Describe gear extension.
Definition
When the gear selector is put into the down position, the extension solenoid opens on the gear hydraulic manifold, the extend side is pressurized and fluid from the retract side is returned to the hydraulic reservoir. Once all the gear are down and locked, the pump stops running.
Term
How does the hydraulic accumulator work?
Definition
The nitrogen pressurized accumulator (1150 PSI) maintains and dampens pressure changes, keeping the hydraulic pump from running as often.
Term
What is the emergency gear extension procedure?
Definition
Press the gear/fire test button to test the lights.

Verify the electric master is on.

Verify the bus voltage is normal (28 VDC minimum).

Airspeed 110 KIAS (156 KIAS max)

Circuit breakers, check in.

Gear selector - down
Manual gear extension lever - pull out
Extension may take several seconds
Check for three green
Red light will be illuminated if gear CB is pulled.
Term
What configuration will cause the gear warning horn to sound?
Definition
Gear selector up and any of the following:

1) Either power lever below approximately 25%
2) LDG flaps selected
3) Aircraft on the ground
Term
How many micro switches are on each main gear?
Definition
1 Down lock switch
2 Up limit switch
3 Squat switch - left gear squat switch prevents gear retraction on the ground, right prevents stall heat from operating on the ground.
Term
How many micro switches on the nose gear?
Definition
1) One up limit
2) One gear unsafe
3) Two down lock - one for the locking hook, one for the stay arm.
Term
What causes the nose gear to center before retracting in the air?
Definition
A nitrogen charge piston with a centering cam.
Term
What are the tire pressures?
Definition
Nose 87 PSI
Mains 65 PSI
