Cyber bullying is a serious topic and I think schools should cover more of it so children feel they are welcome at school. When someone bullies another person it leaves them feeling unwanted and unsafe. Unlike bullying at school, bullying online can happen anywhere and at any time.

Cyber bullying can also be very public, especially if photos or comments are posted on sites that can be accessed by anyone. Even if photos or comments are only sent to one person or a small group of people, there’s a chance that they’ll get out to others. Once they’re out, they’re out forever - and there’s no way to control who sees them.

It may be just a little bit of fun and games for a start but when it keeps going it becomes a more serious issue and can really upset the person getting bullied. Some people go from being quite popular and having lots of friends then all of a sudden people start making fun of them and they end of with very few friends. Just imagine how left out you would feel and how much you wouldn’t want to come to school because you feel as though everyone hates you.

Picture yourself walking into the school ground with everyone staring at you as you walk past. You’re sitting in class with others around you who are watching videos and reading messages online that is all about you and you can’t do anything but sit there and pretend it’s not happening. At lunch time you are sitting by yourself all alone with no one to talk to. After school you go home and go online to read all the horrible things people are saying about you and you can’t stop crying, you feel worthless and sick inside.

How can you deal with it?
People being cyber bullied not often tell anyone, they keep it to themselves. First of all as soon as some starts harassing you or giving you a hard don’t retaliate or respond no matter how tempting it may be. Responding to something like that will only make things worse. The bully wants you to respond so they can come back with more mean and hurtful things to say. Instead of bottling it all in making you feel unsafe or alone, talk to someone you trust straight away so the problem can be fixed. Make sure you block the person doing the bulling and change your privacy settings, also report it and collect all evidence including mobile phone messages, print outs of emails or social networking conversations.
