OWN THOUGHT:
Why is social studies integration important? |
|
Definition
| Social studies integration is important because it ties everything together. It also helps students pinpoint what is important. Another thing integration does is help students understand concepts. |
|
|
Term
OWN THOUGHTS:
Give an example on how integration helps students understand key concepts. |
|
Definition
| Example: If a student does not understand the concept of a map, and the concept of a "scale", then the teacher can tie in a real world example. The teacher can also use math to help that student understand what a scale is. They can measure things, and then create a scale as if the student were to put it on a map. |

OWN THOUGHTS:
Give an example on how integration can be inappropriate. |
|
Definition
| Difficult or impossible tasks: do not give students assignments that are seemingly impossible to complete. For example, when teaching students on Van Gogh, do not ask students to "remake" a painting. This would be very frustrating to students, and it would be difficult to grade for teachers. |
