OVERHEATING INDICATOR
Definition
RED light will come on, engine will gradually reduce to approximately 1800 RPM and engine will stop after 20 seconds. Indicator is activated via the engine control moduel(ECM) by two overheat sensors mounted on the engine.
Term
Low Oil Pressure
Definition
Less than 23psi AT 1800rpm, the GREEN light will go off, ECM will gradually reduce speed, stop engine and check and service the oil level, restart engine, the GREEN light should come on within 30 seconds and throttle operation should be normal. If the light remains off the RPM will not increase with throttle movement.
Term
ALTERNATOR INDICATOR
Definition
RED light, each alternator is rated at 12 VDC, 60 amp at 2300 RPM and produces 48 amps of power at 1000RPM. Belt driven and protected by a 150-amp fuse, located in the fuse case mounted on the engine
Term
Collision With Submerged Object
Definition
Bring engines to all stop, Look back and see if you can identify the object. Mark position(SINS, GPS), Contact Sector, verify position. Crew will check for sheen in water, any water in anchor locker or aft deck lockers. Secure engines raise and check lower unit and props for damage. If no visual damage lower engines and one at a time start and gradually increase speed 1000 rpms at a time checking for high vibrations or any unusual sounds.(at slower speed have crewman put hand on engine to see if he/she feel vibration)
Term
Loss of steering
Definition
Bring engines down to clutch ahead, Drop Positions(SINS and GPS), Contact Sector, Vefify Position and Discuss Anchoring. Crewman will check behind helm as Coxwain checks fluid in resevior. Crewman checks in starboard aft locker for sheen or fluid, Checks tied bar assembly and see if anything is jammed between engines
