Adacel

Definition

Pediatric0.5 mL IM given at age 11–12 yr if 5 yr have elapsed since last dose of DTaP; one-time dose may be given to all adolescents who have not received previous Tdap.

Adverse Reactions/ Side Effects:   



Adults:  Single dose should be given instead of Td in adults (19–64 yr) if they received their last dose of Td B10 yr ago (and did not previously receive a dose of Tdap).

Adverse Reactions/ Side Effects:  Fatigue, headache, gastrointestinal symptoms, pain at injection site

Definition

Therapeutic Class: Imidazopyridine

Indications: Insomnia

Caution: Pregnancy, lactation, children (safety not established)

Adverse reactions/Side Effects: Daytime drowsiness, dizziness, "drugged" feeling", hallucinations, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, physical dependence, tolerance, or anaphylactic reactions.

Diphenhydramine (benadryl)

Definition

Therapeutic Class: Ethanolamine

Indications: Relief of allergic symptoms caused by histamine release.

Cautions: Lactation safety not established in OB patients

Adverse Reactions/ Side Effects:  drowsiness,dizziness, blurred vision, hypotension, dry mouth, urinary retention, photosensitivity, chest tightness, wheezing, pain at IM site.

Definition

Therapeutic Class: Surfactant

Indications: Treatment of constipation associated with dry, hard stools and decreased intestinal motility.

Cautions: Hypersensitivity

Adverse Reactions/ Side Effects: Electrolyte imbalances, dehydration, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, rashes,  urine discoloration.

Therapeutic Class: Synthetic Opioid

Inditcations: Mild to moderate pain

Cautions: Safety not establised in OB, or lactation patients.

Adverse Reactions/ Side Effects: Dizziness, weakness, headache, blurred vision, hypotension, rashes, nausea, abdominal pain, dependence, tolerance.

Medroxyprogesterone (depo-provera)

Definition

Therapeutic Class: Progestin

Inditcations: Treatment of secondary amenorrhea and abnormal uterine bleeding caused by hormonal imbalance

Cautions: OB- May increase the risk of fetal genitourinary malformation. 

Adverse Reactions/ Side Effects: Depression, Retinal thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, drug-enduced hepatitis, cervial erosions, amenorrhea, breast tenderness

Definition

Therapeutic Class: Anticoagulant

Inditcations: Prophylaxis and treatment of throboembolic disorders

Cautions:May be used during pregnancy but use with caution during the last trimester and in the immediate postpartum period

Adverse Reactions/ Side Effects: Drug-induced hepatitis, alopecia, rashes, bleeding, pain at injection site, fever, hypersensitivity

Definition

Therapeutic Class: NSAID

Inditcations: For treatment of mild to moderate pain and fever

Cautions:  use cautiously up to 30 wks gestation, safety not established to use during lactation, safety not established for infants

Adverse Reactions/ Side Effects: Headache, dizziness, blurred vision, edema, hypertension, constipation, abdominal discomfort, prolonged bleeding time.

enoxaparin (lovenox)

Definition

Therapeutic Class: low molecular-weight heparin

Inditcations:Prevention of DVT and PE, or treatment of a  DVT.

Cautions: Safety not established, should not be used in pregnant patients with prosethetic heart valves

Adverse Reactions/ Side Effects: edema, dizziness, urinary retention, rash, hyperkalemia, bleeding.

Definition

Therapeutic Class: ergot alkaloid

Inditcations:Prevention and treatment of postpartum or postabortion hemorrhage caused by uterine atony or subinvolution

Cautions:Should not be used to induce labor, use extreme caution using this in the 3rd stage of labor.

Adverse Reactions/ Side Effects: diziness, headache, cramps, nausea, vomiting, hypertension, disphoresis, allergic reactions
