Definition
Cause: LES weakness or delayed gastric emptying
- sx at night, dysphagia, salivation, retrosternal burning
Labs: EGD if chronic or unresponsive to PPI
Tx: antacids, **H2 blockers, or PPIs
- elevate head of bed, avoid trigger foods, stop smoking, avoid NSAIDs (lower LES pressure)
trigger foods: avoid alcohol, caffeine, spices, peppermint |

Definition
1. No dysplasia - surveillance every 3-5 years
2. Low grade dysplasia - surveillance every 6 months for 1 year, if no further dysplasia, survey every 2-3 years
- if persistent low grade, surveillance every 12 months
3. High grade dysplasia - surgical candidate for esophagectomy
- if not, ablation therapy or continued surveillance at 3-6 months intervals |
