  • Antiquated; out-of-date
Ex: Anglo-saxon, the archaic form of English, flourished in England for several hundred years before giving way o an influx of languages influenced by Latin.

  • An original model or type from which similar forms are copied.

Ex: The earth mother is an archetype that appear in cultures around the world.

  • A group of many islands or the sea containing them.
  • A group of separate enitities contained within a defined area.
Ex: The Marshall islands are an archipelago of 1150 islands in the Souh Pacific.

Ex: The national archives holds many national archives like the Declaraion of Independence and the Bill of Rights.

  • Disorder and confusion

Ex: Anarchy is harder for human beings to cope with than the greatest restrictions of an oppressive government.

  • Government by the few, especially a faction of persons or families.
Ex: An oligarchy of wealthy landowners refused to extend land rights to the peasants who work their ranches.

  • A leader or agitator who appeals to people's passions and prejudices rather than to their reason.
Ex: Adolf Hitler was considered a demagogue because of his ability to incite the people.

  • One who studies the characteristics of populations and analyzes data such as numbers, births, deaths, diseases, and other vital statistics.

Ex: Demographers have calculated from US census figures that the number of immigrants are increasing over the years.

  • A representation or  picture of a sacred personage or event, traditionally painted on wooden panels in the manner of Eastern Orthodox churches.
  • A person greatly admired for a particular talent, qualiy or service.
Ex: The cross is an icon for christianity.

  • Breaking or destroying images
  • Attacking or overthrowing tradition or popular ideas, institutions, or conventions.
Ex: Charles Darwin developed his iconoclastic theory of evolution as he sailed around South America.
