  • Parthenon 447-438 BCE, Athens, marble, architects: Iktinos and Kallikrates. Both Doric AND Ionic elements. It is called the Temple of Athena Parthenos parthenos = virgin goddess. They wanted to make it look bigger and taller and lighter. The columns are a bit fatter to support the structure. There is also use of mathematical proportions that go into the making of the building. (Symmetria). The architects use entasis to correct human perception and appear straight from afar. The first completely marble temple in greece.
