Term
Specimens which are suitable for analysis are
Definition
serum stored at 2-8°C for 7 days
Term
The therapeutic ranges for salicylate concentration
Definition
2-10 mg/dL for analgesia and 10-30 mg/dL for anti-inflammatory.
Term
The toxic ranges
Definition
30-60 mg/dL.
Term
The procedure
Definition
starts with 4 test tubes with reagent A in each of them. Then add appropriate ingredient to each tube and mix. The initial absorbance is recorded at 340nm, then reagent B is added and mixed and incubated. Final absorbance is measured and change in absorbance is calculated along with concentration of salicylate for each tube.
Term
Why is maintaining a drug level within therapeutic range important?
Definition
because an overdose can be deadly, and to beep concentration above minimum effectve concentration so it is still treating the disorder
Term
Three methods for treating salicylate intoxication
Definition
activated charcoal, alkaline dieresis and hemodialysis
Term
Clinical manifestations of toxic doses of salicylate
Definition
rapid onset of CNS stimulation, sweating, hyperventilation, nausea, flushed skin, ringing in the ears, and fever. chronic overdose can cause renal failure and kidney damage
