How many muscles span the shoulder joint?

Name them.

Definition

Deltoid                    coracobrachialis

Supraspinatus          biceps brachii

Pectoralis major       triceps brachii long head

Term
What are the SITS muscles?
Definition

Supraspinatus

Infraspinatus

Teres Minor

Subscapularis

also called rotator cuff muscles

They hold the head of the humerus in the glenoid fossa as it moves in the joint.

Term
Name the muscles that attach to the Anterior portion of the scapula.
Definition

Subscapularis - subscapular fossa

Coracobrachialis - coracoid process

Biceps short head - coracoid process

Pectoralis minor - coracoid process

Serratus anterior - anterior surface of vertebral border

The book does not list Pec minor or serratus for some reason.  Need to ask Mia to clarify this.  Some of these are Joint and some Girdle muscles

Term
Names the shoulder joint muscles attached to the posterior side of the scapula.  Don't forget to distinguish between Joint and Girdle muscles.
Definition

Supraspinatus - supraspinous fossa

infraspinatus - infraspinous fossa

Teres major - Axillary border near inferior angle

teres minor - axillary border (above t major)

posterior deltoid muscles - spine of scapula (lateral)

Girdle muscles

Trapezius Upper, middle, lower

Levator Scapula - Vert border +

Rhomboids - vert border

Term
what shoulder joint muscles do NOT attach to the scapula
Definition

Latissimus Dorsi - humeral attachment

Pectoralis Major - humeral attachment

ANTERIOR Deltoid- clavicular attachment

Term
describe the glenoid labrum
Definition
a fibrous ring that surrounds the rim of the glenoid fossa it functions to deepen the articular cavity.
Term
what do the superior, middle and inferior glenohumeral ligaments do?
Definition
reinforce the anterior portion of the joint capsule.  Not well defined ligaments part of the folds of the joint capsule
Term

What are the attachment points of the

coracohumeral ligament?

Definition

the coracohumeral ligament attaches from the lateral side of the coracoid process and spans the joint anteriorly to the medial side of the greater tubercle.  it strengthens the upper part of the joint capsule.

Term
what has happened in a first degree acromioclavicular sprain/separation?
Definition

the acromioclavicular ligament is stretched.

Term
What has happened in a second degree AC separation?
Definition

the acromioclavicular ligament is ruptured

the coracoclavicular ligament is stretched

Term
What has happened in a third degree AC separation?
Definition
Both the acromioclavicular and coracoclavicular ligaments are ruptured.
Term
What muscles are part of the force couple during shoulder abduction?
Definition
