Term
Total AFCS Failure.
Definition
1. Copilot AFCS DC CB - Check.
#If CB Popped#
2. Copilot AFCS DC CB - Reset.
#If CB has not popped/will not reset.#
3. #1 AFCS Servo - Deselect (transfer to No. 2 AFCS)
4. Land as soon as Practical.
Term
Total AFCS Failure Note
Definition
There will be a noticeable difference in control between the pitch and roll relative to collective and yaw with only the pitch and roll AFCS servos operational. Consideration should be given to securing all AFCS servos prior to landing.
Term
AFCS Pitch/Roll Failure
Definition
1. Flight directors - Check both ON-ON and AFCS modes to detrmine malfunction.
2. Malfunctioning AFCS amp - ID and turn off.
#If attitude changes exist#
3. Malfunctioning AFCS Servo - ID and turn off.
4. Land as soon as Practical.
Term
AFCS Pitch/Roll Failure Warning
Definition
If only one pitch and roll amplifier is being used, a hardover in that single channel may cause severe pitch oscillations before corrections can be made.
Term
AFCS Yaw/Altitude Failure
Definition
1. Flight director - Check AFCS mode to determine malfunction.
2. RDR ALT Rel/BAR Alt Buttons - Depress
3. Yaw/Alt Amp Switch - Turn Off.
4. CLTV Trim Switch - Off.
5. Yaw/Alt Servo switch - Off
6. Land ASA Practical.
Term
Uncommanded Flight Inputs
Definition
*1. AFCS Servos - Secure.
#If uncommanded inputs still exist#
*2. Isolate either stage.
3. Land ASA possible
#Binding/Restriction in flight
4. Momentary release control pressures then reattempt recovery.
#Binding on ground#
5. Hold slight pressure against binding/restriction.
6. Shut down aircraft.
7. Continue to hold pressure/troubleshooter.
Term
Impending Main Gear Box Failure
Definition
1. Power -- The engine torque setting that facilitates slow cruise, descent, and landing with minimal power changes (30-40 percent).
2. Minimum safe altitude -- Min safe altitude is the altitude from which transition to a no-hover landing can be accomplished usuing a slow cyclic flare with as little power change as possible.
3. Landing -- A no hover landing should be planned unless a running landing is assured. If conditions permit a running landing will require fewer and smaller power changes than a no-hover landing and should be performed.
Term
Main gear box chip light.
Definition
1. MGB CB -- Cycle.
#If Chip Detected caution reappears#
2. Descend to minimum safe altitude using minimum power.
3. Land as soon as possible
#If secondary indications occur.
4. Land immediately.
Term
Main gearbox chip light warning.
Definition
Do not cycle main gearbox more than once.
Term
Main gearbox chip light note.
Definition
If Chip Detected caution light does not reappear, continue the mission and monitor related instruments, and caution lights
Term
Abnormal MGB Oil Pressure or Temperature Indications
Definition
1. MGB oil pressure/temp outside of safe limits. -- Descend to min safe altitude.
2. Land as soon as possible.
#If MGB press goes to zero + low press light.#
3. Land Immediately
#If secondaries occur#
4. Land Immediately.
Term
Abnormal MGB Oil Pressure or Temperature Indications Warning
Definition
If oil pressure drops suddenly to 0, main gearbox failure is imminent, and main bearbox seizure may occur in as little as 5 minutes.
Term
Freewheeling Unit Failure
Definition
1. Confirmed FWU failure -- Land as soon as practical.
2. Shutdown -- Shut down affected engine last.
Term
Freewheeling Unit Failure Caution
Definition
After confirming a FWU failure, do not attempt to to split the Nf/Nr needles again.
