Term
*Quinidine (Quinaglute, Cin-Quin)
Definition
MOA: Blocks Na+ channels, decreases automaticity of ectopic foci
Notes: Use for atrial + ventricular dysrhythmias. Can cause cinchonism (HA, blurred vision, tinnitus)
Term
*Flecainide (Tambocor)
Definition
Blocks Na+ channels, decreases automaticity of ectopic foci
May cause dysrhythmias. Good for chronic ventricular dysrhythmia management
Term
*Lidocaine (L-caine)
Definition
Blocks Na+ channels, decreases automaticity of ectopic foci
Used for ventricular dysrhythmias following an MI or surgery; ONLY given IV
Term
*Propranolol (Inderal)
Definition
Decreases nodal conductance by increasing AV node refractory time
Good for Dig induced dys, atrial dys. Decreases HR
SE: tired, sedated & no exercise tolerance
Term
*Amiodarone (Cordarone)
Definition
Increases duration of action potential; given IV & PO
Good for life-threatening vent dys & vent fibrillation (MI patients)
Lots of pts have died on this drug, but they are also very very sick
Term
*Verapamil (Isopten), Amlodipine
Definition
Decreases AV nodal conduction
Good for atrial dys
