Definition
  1. Class: Lipid-lowering, Statins
  2. Action: decreases LDL, increases HDL
  3. Adverse effects: Rhabdomyolysis (report muscle pain), GI discomfort
  4. Contraindications: Hepatic, renal, pregnancy
  5. Interactions: digoxin (increases toxicity), Grapefruit juice (may increase risk of myopathy/rhabdomyolysis
  6. Labs: Liver, triglyceride, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL

  1. Class: Lipid-lowering, Bile-Acid Binding Agents
  2. Action: binds to bile acids containing cholesterol
  3. Adverse effects: Obstruction (check bowel sounds), GI discomfort, esophageal irritation (mix w/ non-carbonated foods/beverages)
  4. Contraindications: GI diseases, pregnancy
  5. Interactions: Administer meds 2h before and 4h after, binds digoxin, warfarin
  6. Labs: triglycerides, total cholesterol, LDL, HDL

  7. B/P ≤ 90/60 HOLD
