Term

Sternum

Definition
The sternum or breastbone, in vertebrate anatomy, is a flat bone.
Term
True Ribs
Definition
The first seven ribs are connected posteriorly with the vertebral column, and anteriorly, through the intervention of the costal cartilages, with the sternum; they are called true ribs or vertebro-sternal ribs.
Term
False Ribs
Definition
The false ribs, are the five sets of ribs below the top seven true ribs. A rib is considered to be "false" if it has no direct attachment to the sternum, also known as the breast bone.
Term
Floating Ribs
Definition
Floating ribs are four atypical ribs (two lowermost pairs, XI-XII) in the human ribcage. They are called so because they are attached to the vertebrae only, and not to the sternum or cartilage coming off the sternum. Some people are missing one of the two pairs.
Term
Pelvis
Definition
The pelvis, or pelvic bone, derived from the Latin word for 'basin', is an anatomical structure found in most vertebrates.
Term
Illium
Definition
ilium is the uppermost and largest bone of the pelvis, and appears in most vertebrates including mammals and birds, but not bony fish. All reptiles have an ilium except snakes, although some snake species have a tiny bone which is considered to be an ilium.
Term
Pubis
Definition
a padding of fat that protects the pubis bone
Term
Ischium
Definition
Situated below the ilium and behind the pubis, it is one of these three bones whose fusion creates the coxa. The superior portion of this bone forms approximately one third of the acetabulum.
Term
Femur
Definition
or thigh bone, is the most proximal (closest to the center of the body) bone of the leg in tetrapod
Term
Fibula
Definition
The fibula or calf bone is a bone placed on the lateral side of the tibia, with which it is connected above and below.
Term
Tibia
Definition
shankbone is the larger and stronger of the two bones in the leg below the knee in vertebrates (the other being the fibula), and connects the knee with the ankle bones.
Term
Tarsals
Definition
Which Includes Calcaneus,Talus,Navicular,Cuboid,Cuneforms, and Cuneforms wich Includes Lateral Cuneform,Medial Cuneform,Intermediate Cuneform
Term
Metatarsals
Definition
The metatarsus or metatarsal bones are a group of five long bones in the foot located between the tarsal bones of the hind- and mid-foot and the phalanges of the toes.
Term
Phalanges
Definition
In anatomy, phalanx bones (plural phalanges) are those that form the toes and the fingers. In primates such as humans and monkeys, the two thumbs and two big toes have two phalanges, and the other fingers and toes have three Phalanges.
