Term
Hemostasis
Definition
depends on temperature, PH, and blood flow
***Normothermia=Normal clotting
Term
Endothelium
Subendothelium
Definition
endothelium- active tissue that contains anticoagulant molecules; leads to initiation of extrinsic pathways of lotting cascade
Subendothelium- contains tissue factor which forms complex with Factor VII
has both anti-thrombotic and prothrombotic functions
Term
Process of Hemostasis
Definition
vasoconstriction-->platelet plug formations -->fibrin formation -->fibrinolysis
Term
FFP dosing
Definition
10-155 cc/kg to reverse INR
Term
Platelet abnormalities
Definition
Can be qualitative or quantitative
Qualitative: normal count, but administration of anti-platelets affects quality of platelts
Quantitative- related to a low platelt count
Term
von Wilebrand's bleeding disorder
Definition
low levels of vWF, low factor VII
autosomal dominant disorder
**no stickiness to platelets/1st wave platelet hemostasis affected
vWF is relevant in first wave of platelet aggregation
Tx: DDAVP
Term
Platelets role in hemostasis
Definition
2 waves:
1st wave: r/t vascular disruption--> exposed subendothelial collagen--> platelt adherance/within 15 sec of event
this wave has to do with the "stickiness" of platelets
2nd wave: irreversable state; attracts more platelets
