Definition
First time we know for sure a species was bipedal. Found in Kenya and Ethiopia 4.2-3.9mya. First ones found in Lake Turkana in Kenya. Named for word lake (anam). They had little brains and looked like they lived in trees. Had many primitive apelike features of skull and teeth (fairly large and in parallel rows).
Term
Australopithecus Afarensis
Definition
Lived in Africa 3.7-3 mya. This was LUCY. Found in 1970’s in Hadar in Ethiopia. Bipedal, had brain of ape, pelvis is much more human like than apelike. Stood about 3 ft tall. This group is definitely our ancestor. There are footprints that were fossilized. Died out 3.2 mya. Little diastema.
