Term
Describe how Stall Protection occurs with the Autothrottle, when armed but not active.
Definition

Activation-

If A/T is armed but not active, the A/T automatically activates when pitch is ALT, V/S, FPA, VNAV ALT, VNAV PTH, VNAV SPD, FLCH SPD, G/S, TOGA,  or no active pitch mode and (all)-speed thrust below ref > 400'above airport (T/O) or 100' RA (APP)Mode

After activation-

If the current pitch mode is no mode, ALT, V/S, FPA, G/S, VNAV ALT, then autothrottle engages into SPD mode, and it will maintain minimum maneuvering speed (approximately the top of the amber band) or the speed set in the IAS/MACH window, whichever is greater if climb VNAV SPD then it goes to THR REF if  descent VNAV SPD or FLCH SPD it goes to THR proportional increase to how deep into the amber band if TOGA it goes to THR to the thrust limit

(FCOM Vol 2, Rev 2- 4.20.9-10)

Term
How is the CLB CON switch used?
Definition

1. On the ground and below 400' after takeoff

2. With 2 engines operating-changes the TRUST LIMIT to the FMC selected climb thrust

3. With 1 engine inoperative-changes the thrust limit to maximum continuous

(FCOM Vol 2, Rev 2- 4.10.4)

Term
Once in approach mode and below 1500' with LAND 3 or LAND 2 annunciated, can you de-select APP mode by pushing the switch again? If not, then how?
Definition

No, however, you can de-select APP mode-

1. If above 1500' deselecting the autopilot and deselecting both flight directors

2. By pressing the TOGA button (LOC & G/S captured)

3. By selecting HDG SEL or HDG HLD (LOC only captured)

(FCOM Vol 2, Rev 2- 4.10.16)

Term
When is it possible for the autopilot be engaged?
Definition

Once airborne until after landing.

(FCOM Vol 2 Rev 2- 4.10.1 & 4.20.2)

Term
Which two components control the Autopilot Flight Director System (AFDS) and the autothrottle system to perform climb, cruise, descent, and approach?
Definition

The Mode Control Panel (MCP)

The Flight Management System (FMS)

(FCOM Vol 2, Rev 2- 4.20.1)

Term
Which components actually move
Definition

Power Control Units (PCUs) or actuators

(FCOM Vol 2, Rev 2- 4.20.4 & 9.20.1)

(better reference needed)

Term
When Autothrottles are armed during landing thrust reduces to IDLE power at what altitude on a manual landing? on an automatic landing?
Definition

Manual landing-

25' RA  (A/T mode- SPD//

or pitch modes- //VNAV  //FLCH SPD)

Automatic landing-

50-25' RA (SPD/LOC/FLARE)

(FCOM Vol 2 Rev 2- 4.20.9 & 15)

Term
Which Autothrottle mode will not reposition the thrust levers after the pilot has manually moved them?
Definition

HOLD

(If HOLD then hold the thrust levers!)

(FCOM Vol 2 Rev 2- 4.20.6)
