HERRING GULL 

Large, pale gray back, black-tipped wings, white head, neck, breast, tail, and underparts. Yellow bill. 

GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL

World's largest gull, white head, black upperparts, white underparts, large yellow bill with red spot. 

COMMON TERN

Medium-sized, gray upperparts, pale gray underparts, glossy black cap and nape.  Dark-tipped wings, red bill with black tip. 

BONAPARTE'S GULL 

Medium-sized gull with a black head and bill, gray back and wings, white underparts and tail.  Black trailing edges. 

LAUGHING GULL

Medium sized. Gray back, white underparts andneck, black hood and red bill.  Gray wings with white edges and black tips. 

WILSON'S STORM PETREL

Brown-black body, pale brown wing bands, large, white rump.  Fine black bill. 

NORTHERN GANNET

Very large. White overall with black primaries and long pointed wings.  Yellow-wash on crown of head. 

CORY'S SHEARWATER

Large, gray-brown, white underparts, pale yellow bill. 

SOOTY SHEARWATER

Large bird, dark gray0brown body, darkest on tail and primaries, underwing is pale. Bill is long and dark. 

GREATER SHEARWATER

Large, gray-brown underparts, brown markings on belly, dark cap/white face. Tail is dark with white rump band. 

MANX SHEARWATER

Small with brown-black upperparts and white underparts, underwings and undertail.  Black head darker than back with dark bill. Long, slim, straight wings and pointed short tail.

DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT

Iridescent black body and orange throat pouch. Long, pale, hooked bill.  Black legs and feet. 

COMMON EIDER

Distinctive sloping forehead.

Male: Black body, white breast and back. White wings with black feathers.

Females: Mostly brown, same shape. 

CANADA GOOSE

Long necked, large gray-brown body, large webbed feet, wide flat bill.  Dark upperparts, pale underparts. 

BLACK GUILLEMOT

Medium-sized, black body, large white wing patch. Dark, pointed bill. White underwings visible while in flight. Inside of mouth is bright orange. 

COMMON LOON

Large, white-spotted, black upperparts and white underparts. Head and neck are green with white streaked neckbands. Head, neck, and feet extend beyond body while in flight. 

OSPREY 

Large raptor, dark brown upperparts, white underparts, small white head with dark crown, dark tail.

HARBOR SEAL 

Plump with small head, large nostril holes close together making V pattern, many fine spots on back, ring like markings. 

GRAY SEAL 

Robust, "horse-like" head, nostrils farther apart, make a W pattern.

COMMON DOLPHIN

Black to brownish gray back with white under belly. About 2 meters long. 

MINKE WHALE 

Black or dark grey on the back with white on the underbelly. Distinctive white bandson pectoral flippers. Dorsal fin curls towards back. Tail fluke is almost never seen, dives without showing it. 

OCEAN SUNFISH

Body is sub-orbicular, fins recognizable. 

LEATHERBACK TURTLE

Dark gray or black carapace with white spots. Longitudinal dorsal ridges.
