-Schools may remove books from the school library. However, a book may not be removed rom the library just because a board memver or schools official does not agree with its content.

-Nontenured teachers have very limited rights. Can choose no to rehire.

-Teachers cannot be fired for behavior that does not disrupt or intefere with their effectiveness as a teacher.

-Cannot be forced into maternity leave

-Teachers can be sued an be liable for negligence.

-Teachers can associate with whomever they want with off-school hours, even if not supposed by school.

-Teachers have freedom of speach as long as they do not disclose confidential info, and it does not interfere with teaching performance. Teachers cannot inerfere with curriculm and do not have unlimited academic freedom of speech in the classroom.

Student Laws

Definition

-Students with disabilities ages 3-21 are entitled to a free and appropriate public education. Least Restrictive Environment.

-Students have limited freedom of press when school pays for it. If students have outside funding, they school cannot be censored by the school.

-Students are entitled to due process. Students ave a right to a hearing and can present a defense before being suspended...unless they pose a threat to others in the school

-Students have freedom of speech unless it causes a significant disruption in the school. They may display message or symbols on their persons and refuse to partifipate in the pledge. However they cannot use speech considered vulgar or offensive.
