Definition

A new or amended release is required if:

  • change of aircraft
  • change of alternate
  • MEL item
  • performance limitates require an amandment
  • the actual Zero Fuel Weight is greated than the planned Zero Fuel Weight by more than 10,000 lbs (4,500 kgs)
  • if delayed on the ground past the Release Valid Util time (typically 4 hours after scheduled departure time)

Definition

Must be:

  • 600' ceiling AND

If either element exceeds this amount the condition is not considered marginal.

What is an isolated airport?

Definition

A destination airport with no alternate available. There must be a valid explanation as to the isolated airport condition, and the airport must be listed as an Isolated Airport in the FOM or in OpSpec C067. Checking this OpSpec is the responsibility of the Dispatcher.

When is an alternate required for Flag Operation?

Definition

When:

  • The flight time to destination is more than 6 hours or
  • flight time is less than 6 hours and weather reports or forcasts for the diestination indicate that 1 hour before to 1 hour after the ETA:
    • ceiling less than 1500' + lowest circiling MDA if a circling approach is required, or
    • ceiling less than 2000' above field elevation or 1500'above the lowest published approach, whichever is greater
    • visibility is less than 3 mile or 2 miles above the lowest applicable minimum, whichever is greater.

Redispatch flights don't require an alternate if 6 hours or less from the Point of Redispatch and the minimums better than above.

    • fly for 30 min at holding speed at 1500'above the alternate (or initial dest if no alt) under standard temperature
  • Final Destination
    • Fly to the Point of Redispatch
    • Fly to and land at the destination airport
    • + 10% of time required to fly from the POR and land at the destination
    • fly to and land at the most distant alternate (if required)
    • fly for 30 minutes at holding speed 1500'abuve the alternate (or initial dest if no alt) under standard temperature

Definition

Enough fuel to:

  • Fly to and land at the destination
  • + 10% of the enoute time flight planned outside of Class 1 service volumes for over 1 hour. (position cannot be reliably fixed)
  • Fly to and land at the most distant alternate
  • Fly for 45 minutes at normal curising fuel consumption

    • fly for 30 minutes at holding speed at 1500' above the alternate (or initial destination if no alt)
  • Destination/Isolated airport
    • Fly to the Point of Safe Return
    • Fly to the destination
    • Fy for at least two hours at nomal cruising fuel

Definition

Added fuel to meet either company or regualtory requirements and included in MINF:

  • ADD.TO: added for minimum takeoff fuel requirement
  • ADD.E: added for ETP/ETOPS requirements
  • ADD.LD: ensures REMF of 60 minutes after miseed, diversion, and landing at alt
  • ADD.RC: added for redisptach requirments if the departure-redispatch airport burn is greater.

What is CF (Contingency Fuel)?

Definition

Fuel included in MINF, added by dispatch for anticipated delays, based on top of descent fuel flow.

What is Ballast Fuel?

Definition

Fuel that may not be used (except in an emergency) which keeps the plane inside the operating envelope.  It is included in MINF.  It must match on the OFP and the Load Sheet.  If not notify the Load Supervisor or Dispatch.

What is Unusable Fuel?

Definition

Fuel required for some MELS like a deferred fuel boost pump, or scavenging.  It is included as Ballast Fuel.  It must be matched on the load sheet and the OFP.  If not notify Dispatch and the Load Supervisor.

What is Extra Fuel?

Definition

Fuel added by the dispatcher for tankering, etc as specified in the OFP remarks.  The time value is based on fuel flow at top of descent.

What is the standard Taxi Fuel Burn Rate and time?

Definition

Standard taxi time is 20 minutes.  Based on historical data, high density airports may have a greater taxi time.

The 777 burns 83 lbs/min during taxi.  (37.6 kgs/min)

Definition

Inflight Reanalysis includes:

  • Position from which the reanalysis originates
  • ETA at that position
  • FL at that position
  • Estimated fuel at that position
  • ATC reroute (if any)

  • Aircraft configuration (normal or non-normal)

Definition

The dispatcher initiates the RDM. 

It may not be issued more than 2 hours prior to the ETA to the POR based on departure time.

Definition

Open: 3,000' ceiling, and 5 sm visibility or greater

Operational: 1,000' - less than 3,000' ceiling and 3 sm - less than 5 sm visibility

Instruments: 600' - less than 1,000' cieling and 1 sm - less than 3 sm visibility

below 600' and 1 sm, the forecast will be sent in plain text.

  • Fuel to alternate (if required
  • Hold for 30 minutes at 1500' AGL at the alternate (or destination if no alternate)
