Term
Integers
Definition
Whole numbers including negative numbers and zero. No decimals or fractions.
Term
Improper Fraction
Definition
A fraction with a numerator is GREATER than it's denominator. Improper fractions can be converted to mixed numbers. Exapmles:
Improper fraction- 57/10
Mixed number- 5 7/10
Term
Prime number
Definition
An integer that is greater than 1, that has no factors other than 1 itself.

2 is the ONLY EVEN prime number.
Term
Consecutive number
Definition
Numbers that follow one after another, in order, without skipping numbers.
Term
Factor
Definition
A positive integer that divides evenly into a given number with no remainder. Example:
Factors of 12 are 1,2,3,4,6,12
Term
Multiple
Definition
A number that a given number will divide into with no remainder. Example:
Multiples of 12 are 0,12,24,60
Term
Rule: Addition and subtraction of positives and negatives.
Definition
Two negatives = a positive. So x - (-y) = x + y.

Adding is basically subtraction. 6 + (-4) is really 6-4 = 2. Subtracting is basically adding. 6 - (-4) is really 6 + 4 = 10. Also, -6 - (-4) is really -6 + 4 = -2.
Term
Rule: Multiplication and division of negative and positive numbers.
Definition
Divide or subtract like normal. To determine weather the answer will be (-) or (+) count the number of negatives (-). Odd amount of negatives = negative product. Even amount of negatives = a positive product. Example:
6 X (-4) = -24
(-6) X (-4) = 24
Term
Prime Factorization
Definition
Breaking down a number until you are left with only prime numbers. Example:
Prime factorization of 168
168=4x42
=4x6x7
=2x2x2x3x7
Term
Greatest Common Factor (GCE)
Definition
Determines the the factors of multiple integers and identifies the highest common similar factor in those integers. Example:
GCF of 40 and 140
Prime Factors:
40= 4x10 = 2x2x2x5
140= 10x14 = 2x5x2x7 = 2x2x5x7
Both share 2x2x5. Multiply out and your GCF is 20.
Term
Rule: Common Multiple
Definition
Multiply the two integers given by each other. Example:
Common Multiple of 20 and 16
20 x 16 = 320
Term
Rule: Least Common Multiple
Definition
Find Prime Factorization for both numbers. Multiply each factor. Repeating factors are to be used as many times as they show up in the integer containing the most of that factor. Example:
20 and 16
20= 2x2x5
16= 2x2x2x2
Least common multiple = 2x2x2x2x5 = 80
Term
Rule: Order of Operations
