Apse- curved section on the long ends, serves as a focal point. 

Nave- open center space that extended up high to admit light. 

Clerestory- top part of the nave that has windows for light. 

 

Aisles- on both sides of the nave, long hallways divided by pillars that buttress the nave. 

 

Transept- lengthwise extensions perpendicular to the nave. Together, the nave and transept form a cross. 

Narthex- a covered walkway directly in front of the church that served as an entry porch.
