  • found a huge amount of pottery
  • large pots found in the homes of residents
  • this meant that they were storing large quantities of food
  • 3 times of occupation

  • discovered that the walls shifted possibly due to an earth quake
  • believed that homeric troy was at the level 7-8 when schliemann thought it was level 2
  • at level 7a there were messy shacks packed along walls  
  • this hsows they were in ahurry to rebuild...worried about the greeks possible

  • dig began april 4th 1939
  • knew he had a palace right away
  • on first day, he found 600 linear B tablets
  • discovered writing on the main land! literacy!
  • destroyed by fire 
  • there were no walls around it

  • Michael Ventris desiphered linear B
  • Alex Colvert had done a lot of work before michael ventris on desiphering linear B but unfortunatly died before her work was complete.  
  • they were originally unbaked tablets, but were baked in a fire.
  • found on knossos
  • the records were only meant for one year
  • they were accounts of palace store rooms
