Term
Can the fan cowling be open during turns?
Definition
Yes as long as both sides are open and double latched. (270-100 WP4)
Term
What do soot swirls or hot spots indicate?
Definition
Faulty fuel nozzles (270-100 WP4)
Term
How many turns must the jack screws is turned on engine run screens?
Definition
A minimum of 2 full turns after making contact with ground (270-100 WP4)
Term
What circuit breakers need to be pulled?
Definition
water/waste-LAV B-elect system, hydraulic-cable cut-cutter, and control, engine start & indicators TCC timer-engine 1 & 4 and engines 2 &3(270-100 WP4)
Term
What is so important about pulling the TCC-timer circuit breaker?
Definition
This is to keep the high pressure turbine clearance control valve timer from operating. When engines are hot (have reached thermal stabilization), allowing the HPTCC timer to operate can cause high pressure turbine blade tip wear. (270-100 WP4)
Term
What position do your flaps have to be in when proceeding past flight idle?
Definition
In the UP position (270-100 WP4)
Term
At what percent N2 can you reengage the starter?
Definition
Below 25 percent (270-100 WP4)
Term
What are you wind limitations?
Definition
For nonperformance (under 70% N1) testing: 20 kts up the tail 30kts from the side no restriction down the nose. For performance tests: 2 kts up the tail 5 kts from the side 15 kts down the nose (reduce max limit 5 kts for gusty wind conditions) (270-100 WP4)
Term
How many cable cutter panels are there?
Definition
4, 1 on reels station. 1 in ops. 2 in the flight station on pilot and copilot side.(NFM-000,7-16a)
Term
What is the minimum oil quantity for starting?
Definition
2.5 gallons as shown on oil quantity gauge (NFM-000 7-15note)
Term
How long do you have to wait for engine cool down?
Definition
Operate engines at idle or near idle for a minimum of 3 minutes (5 minutes optimum) (NFM-000 4-10caution)
Term
When can you introduce fuel?
Definition
25% or max motoring speed (NFM-000 4-13)
Term
What is max motoring speed defined as?
Definition
one percent every 5 seconds (NFM-000 7-52)
Term
How many failed starts until maintenance is required?
Definition
2 failed starts (NFM-000 4-14caution)
Term
What is first indication of a possible hot start?
Definition
A fuel flow of over 500 pph before light off (NFM-000 7-52)
Term
What are your fuel flow limitations?
Definition
300-500pph before light off 600-1000pph after light off (NFM-000 7-52)
Term
What are your stop start criteria?
Definition
No light off within 10 seconds, oil pressure, and fuel flow not to exceed 1000pph, impeding hot start, and starter fails to cutout. (NFM-000 7-54)
Term
What locations are turns authorized?
Definition
Tango ramps one thru six (CSCW-1INST 4790.22D)
Term
What lights need to be on for engine turns?
Definition
Navigation and upper red anti-collision lights. For night turns the wing leading edge lights shall also be illuminated. (CSCW-1INST 4790.22D)
Term
Oil pressure
Definition
Fluctuation Varying more than +/-5 psig from a stabilized power settings
Term
If engine is operated with no oil pressure or very low and exceeded any of the following
Definition
A.Takeoff power 10 seconds
B.Cruise power 10 seconds
C.Idle(flight or ground) 30 seconds
Term
Oil temperature
What has to be done when the oil temperature exceeds 140c?
Definition
It should be recorded in the ADB w/ peak temp + time above 140c
Term
What has to be done when the oil temperature exceeds 155c?
Definition
shut down engines and notify M/C
Term
COMPRESSOR STALL
What needs to be done if you have a compressor stall?
Definition
1. Retard thrust levers to idle to clear the stall monitor EGT and N2 percent rpm decrease. 2. Advance the thrust lever slowly to determine if stall will reoccur. If stall does not reoccur and parameters indicate normal, continue engine operation. 3. If stall reoccurs the engine should be shutdown. Record where stall occurred (i.e. N1,N2, OAT)
Term
Engine flameout
How can an engine flameout be detected and what are the emergency procedures
Definition
Can be recognized by an immediate decrease in EGT, N2 and fuel flow, followed closely by a decreasing N1. If encountered set the thrust lever to idle and engine start lever to cutoff. After engine is shutdown perform dry motoring to clear any unburned fuel.
Term
Jump chocks
What must be done if A/C jumps chocks?
Definition
1. Set thrust levers to idle 2. Apply breaks 3. Use nose wheel steering to control and avoid obstacles 4. Apply emergency pneumatic brakes to stop A/C if necessary. 5. Shut down engines in accordance with NFM. 6. Rehearse emergency procedures with other crewmembers.
Term
Hung start
How can a hung start be detected and what are the emergency procedures?
Definition
Can be recognized by an abnormally slow acceleration and N1, N2 decreasing or stabilizing below normal idle. Check EGT if EGT is low attempt to increase starter air pressure if this is not possible or has no effect set start lever to cutoff and motor for 60 seconds to clear any residue fuel
Term
Wet or hot start
Definition
If wet or hot start occurs set engine start levers to cutoff and motor for 60 seconds. This will remove a fuel build up (wet start) and cool down case for and impeding hot start or hot start.
Term
Engine Fire
Definition
If ground reports a tailpipe fire proceed with wet/hot start procedures do not discharge engine fire extinguisher unless fire warning light illuminates. Do not pull fire switch engines cannot be motored if bleed air valve is closed. Perform engine failure/fire checklist IAW NFM-500
Term
Engine danger areas
Definition
IDLE: 25 ft in front of engine inlet 5ft behind engine inlet 20 degree sweep 200ft from exhaust.
TRT: 50ft in front of engine inlet 6ft behind engine inlet 30 degree sweep 500ft from exhaust.
