Like ost othre paintings for thousands of years, this very eary example from Africa represents an animal in srict profile so that the head, body, tail, and all four legs are clearly visible

• Reproductive organs empjasized: huge breasts, belly, buttocks, navel
• Hair in clumps arranged in rows
• Deemphasized arms, face, legs; no feet -- Vens was never meant to sand up 
• Face may have been painted in; traces of paint on body
• Fertility symbol?
• Small, only 4 inches long, meant to be handheld
• Venus is a clever name given to the object after it's discovery as a way of comaring it to the ancient goddess of beauty
