Term
LERICHE’S/ABD AORTIC OCCLUSION
Definition
Chronic atherosclerotic stenosis
Sx – butt/hip claudication, absent fem pulses, impotence, cool LEs
Results in large intercostal, lumbar, and epigastric collaterals to supply Les
Bypass versus stenting
Term
RIGHT AORTIC ARCH
Definition
0.1% of population and assoc w/ aberrant L subclavian
This IS considered a vascular ring but doesn’t typically cause airway compression (5%)
10% assoc with ToF
Term
LEFT SVC
Definition
Persistence of L anterior cardinal vein
Assoc with Cong heart disease
Drains into RA via coronary sinus
Duplicated SVC is more common and more commonly assoc w/ cong heart disease
Term
SPLENIC A ANEURYSM
Definition
Treatment recommended at >2.5 cm, symptomatic, pregnancy, rapidly expanding
Embolization preferred to coils; spleen has several collaterals so infarction rare
Term
SCLEROSING CHOLANGITIS
Definition
“Beaded” biliary system followed by “pruned-tree” appearance – saccular outpouchings and areas of dilation
Progressive obliterative fibrosis of I/EHBD
Assoc w/ IBD, pancreatitis, RP fibrosis
Increased risk of cholangio
Term
SUBCLAVIAL STEAL SYNDROME
Definition
Vertebroasilar insufficiency resulting from stenosis of proximal subclavian
Sx – syncope, headaches, other neuro symptoms after exercising of ipsat arm
Decreased SBP/pulse in affected limb
On angio – retrograde flow down vert artery on late pass w/ stenosis of prox subclavian
Most commonly on the left and a result of atherosclerosis
Term
AORTIC DISSECTION
Definition
A – involves ascending arch
B – involves aorta distal to L subclavian
Term
IVC FILTER PLACEMENT
Definition
Venogram determines – 1. Presence of IVC thrombus 2. Renal vein location 3. Caval or renal v. anomalies; IVC diameter
Indications: failed AC, poor cardiopulm status, single PE may be fatal, free floating IVC thrombus
Term
CELIAC ARTERY COMPRESSION (aka median arcuate ligament syndrome)
Definition
2/2 compression by crus of diaphragm or celiac neural plexuses/connective tissues
Young, thin women typically asymptomatic but can cause crampy abd pain/malabsorption
Surgery to enlarge hiatus or resect ganglion – angioplasty doesn’t work, stents CI’ed
