1) Marah--"bitter." There's water but the Israelites can't drink it b/c it's bitter. But then God makes it sweet by telling Moses to put a tree in the water.

5) Arrival at Sinai--Got there after 3 months after they left Egypt. Stayed there for a little less than a year.

Definition

1) Setting--Camped there before the mountain. God calls Moses up to the mountain.

2) God's offer--Thunder and lightening, loud trumpet sound, flashes. God gives ten commandments.

3) People's response--Ppl need to step back and listen to Moses about what God told him. So they waited.

4) Further stipulations 

5) Provision of angelic guide--God sent an angel to them to guide them and told the people to listen to the angel and not be rebellious.
