can occur over time
Term
catechoalmine tolerance
Definition
can occur over time
Term
phenylephrine clinical use
Definition
vasoconstirctive effects tot reat hypotension and shock. Usedi n nasal decongestion and opthalmic effect fo mydriasis
Term
clonidine clinical use
Definition
penetrates cns, inhibiting ysmpathetic output. Use in hypertension (causes hypotension) .DIminish craving in narotis nad alcohol
Term
albuterol ritodrine clincial use
Definition
used in asthma for bronchodilation . inhalers tom inimzie systemtic effects
Term
amphetaamine metylphenidate clincal cuse.
Definition
readily enters CNS, release catecholamiensin cluding dopamine. CNS elevation fo mood and elertness and supresison fo appetetipe. USed for narcolepsy, weight loss, and ADHD
Term

Term
Cocaine effects
Definition
vasoconstriciton and loca anesthesia, side effects inclusdeh yeprtensive response
Term
TYramine effects
Definition
found in food, improatnt if mao inhibitor present, causes ne-like hyperetensive response
Term
ephederine , psudoepehrdrine
Definition
cns penetration , midlstimulants. Long DOA. - used as nasald econgestants and bronchodilators.
Term
nonspeicifc alpha blockers effect
Definition
a1/a2 blockers, predominant effect is vasodilation , reflex tachycardia by decresed a2 medaited feedback inhibtion , blunting hypotensive rsone by the increased cardiac output.
Term
nonspecifica lpha blockers adverse effects effect
Definition
orthostatic hypotensionn, nasal stuffifnes,s tachycardia .
Term
phenoxybenzmaine
Definition
requries bioactiation, covalent and irreversible adrenergic antagonist- treatment of pehochromcyotoma
Term
phentolamine uses
Definition
competitivei nhbitor, used tor pheochromocytoma.
Term
a1 blockers
Definition
decrese bblodo presusre with less reflex stimaulti on of heart rate by decreasing preload and afterload. USedt o treat hypertension and used to promote urine flow (BPH).
Term
prazosin, terasozin
Definition
used for hypternion and BPH, a1 blocker
Term
prazosin, terasozin
Definition
used for hypternion and BPH, a1 blocker
Term
tamsulosin
Definition
a1 blocker. promote urien flow in bph with little effects on blood pressure
Term
bta blocker effects
Definition
no real effects onarterial pressure, more useful for decreasing ccontractility
Term
effects of beta blockeers
Definition
general effects no cardioselectivity .
cadiovascualr: decrease heart rate and mycoradial conrtactility. Short term - decreasing cardiac output but increasing peripheral restiatnace (due to b2 blockage), howeverin logner term peripherla restiatnce normalizes resulting in decreased myocradial o2 consumption.

BP0 no effect on normal, decrase htn in hyeprtensives.

pulmonary- b2 antagonism of bronchodilation. Dangerous in COPD and asthma.
eye- decrease aqueous humor produciton form ciliary epithelium.

metabolic- blocks glucose mobilziation- , slows loplysis, increase vldl and lowesr hdl (unfavorable)
Term
beta blcoker properties
Definition
relatively specific for b1 and b2. WIth b1 mroe than b2 knwon as cardioselelctive (less effects on lungs)

2. partial agonist activity (ISA- intrisnic symapthomimetic activity). useufl for patient with sympomatic bradicyardia or ashtam with pure antagonsits.

local anaesthetic properties- undesirable for eye (membrane stabiilizing activity).
Term
beta blcoker pharacokinetics-
Definition
well absorbedafter oral administration
Term
b blocker therapuetic uses
Definition
angina, hyperentsion, supraventricualr and ventricualr arrythmias, myocardial infarction , hyperthyroidism (coutneracts b receptor upregulation). Glaucoma (decreased produciton of aques humor). prevention of migraen (prohpylactically) and tremors. and Heart failure
Term
B blocker effects / contraindications
Definition
heart failure, bradycardia, COPD and asthma. Abruupt withdrawl leadinds to angina and sudden death due to enhacne beta sensitity.
