Discuss the possible significance of the holy spirit for-bidding Paul to go into Asia with the gospel. Where did he go instead? Possible outcomes?
Definition
God called Paul and Silas to Macedonia through a vision. Through going there and not Asia, Paul spreads the word in Troas. Troas becomes a pivotal part of the missionary journey because it promotes westward expansion of the gospel; which led to the gospel in Europe and eventually the Americas.
Term
What significance are verses 6, 7 and 10 in chapter 16?
Definition
Verses 6, 7 and 10 are the first Trinitarian references. Verse 6 – the Holy Spirit; verse 7 – the spirit of Jesus; verse 10 – God; the Godhead is like 3 parts of an egg; like water, ice and steam; not 1+1+1=3 but 1x1x1=1
Term
Discuss 16:13, 14 and the Sabbath.
Definition
Sabbath gathering for prayer at the river; because it takes 10 men to make a synagogue and there weren’t enough men, the women met outside at the river. The Sabbath is Saturday, the Jewish Lord’s day. On this day, the Jews were not supposed to do anything but worship God.
Term
Give the full discussion from chapter 20 and 21 concerning the material about Paul being compelled by the spirit and also being warned by him, which seemingly are contradictory. Essay Question.
Definition
Paul was being compelled by the Spirit to go to Jerusalem. At the same time, Christians were warning him not to go to Jerusalem because people would persecute him. It seems contradictory, but should be looked at as a test of Paul’s strength. Paul is being prepared to handle the persecution of the people in Jerusalem. He has to be strong enough because if he goes to Jerusalem unprepared, he might back down which would be disastrous.
