Term
do all living organisms go through cellular respiration?
Definition
yes
Term
define cellular respiration
Definition
the process by which motochondria break down food molecules to produce ATP
Term
How many stages are in Cellular Respiration? What are they called?
Definition
1. glycolisis
2.citric acid cycle aka Krebs cycle
3. Electron Transport chain
Term
is the electron transport chain in cellular respiration the same as the E.T.C. in photosynthesis?
Definition
No, becuase they have different results and occur in differnt places.
Term
what is anarobic and aerobic?
Definition
Anarobic- does not require energy to work
Aerobic- requires energy to work
Term
Are glycolisis, the citric acid cycle, and ETC aerboic or anarobic?
Definition
Glycolosis-anarobic
CAC- Aerobic
ETC-anarobic
Term
list 6 things about the glycolisis stage
Definition
1.it is anarobic
2.glucose is broken down into 2 pyruvic acid (3 carbon molecule)
3. Occurs in the cytoplasm-makes ATP
4.You need 2 molecules of ATP to start reaction- produces 4 molecules of ATP- net gain is 2 molecules of ATP
5. This process is not very effecient
6. transports to the mitochondria
Term
List 6 things about the citric acid cycle
Definition
1. net gain is 2 molecules of ATP
2. also known as the "krebs cycle"
3.it is anarobic process
4. 2nd stage of cellular respiration
5. occurs in the membranes of the mitochindria
6. 4 stages of CAC- a. citric acid formentation b. formentation of CO2 c. formentation of CO2 d. recycling of oxaloacetic acid
Term
list 4 things about the ETC
Definition
1. occurs in the membrane of mitochondria
2. final electron acceptor is oxygen
3. is aerobic
4. 2 molecules of water
5.net gain of atp is 32 molecules
Term
Fermentation
Definition
anarobic process- without oxygen

2. follows glycolisis when the cells are w/out oxygen
3. only occurs while oxygen is unavailable. then as soon as oxygen is available it becomes the CAC
4.EX- Working out
Term
2 major types of fermentation and what are they?
Definition
Alcoholic- used by yeast cells and some bacteria. End wiht CO2 and ethylalcohol

lactic acid- replace NAD+ by using NADH+ produced by glycolisis forming 2 molecules of lactic acid.
