Although earth may be the only place in the universe that can support life, why is it still not considered to be a very welcoming place? 

Definition

It is not very welcoming because it is covered with oceans and of the part this is land, most areas are either too hot or too cold.

The Arctic and deserts are places where survival is difficult.

They are able to explore and sometimes even settle in extreme environments because they have developed the technology to overcome obstacles to survival.

In order to survive in any environment you must be able to meet your basic needs for water, food, air and shelter.

Definition

Some bacteria can live in volcanic vents because they love heat and they have adapted to the environment.

What would you and your community have to do to adapt to the changes in temperature if it became much hotter? 

Definition

If it became much hotter I might have to:

- wear shorts and a tank top

- get air conditioning

- use a fan

- stay indoors in an air conditioned room if it were too hot to go outdoors

- wear a sun hat

- stay in the shade outside

Definition

If it became much colder, I would have to:

- use a heater or a stove

- wear more and warmer clothing

- stay indoors in a warm place if it got too hot outside
