This is access to Salesforce by other means such as Outlook Edition, Office Edition, or other API integrations. If accessing from a outside their trusted network, users will need to use a combination of their user password and Security Token for authentication.

 

UI:

This is direct login access to salesforce.com over the internet using the salesforce interface and the user's established credentials.

Definition
The Trusted IP Range is a list of trusted network address ranges that your organization trusts for access to Salesforce.

Users accessing Salesforce via a browser from trusted networks will be allowed access without activating their computer.
