Interferes with several bacterial enzyme systems. Not effective against microbes
in blood or tissues outside the
urinary tract.
Dose range-50 to 100 mg four times a day
for 10 to 14 days
Route - oral 25, 50, and 100mg capsules
Side effects-nausea, vomiting, anorexia,
rust brown to yellow colored urine,
dyspnea, chills, rash, itching,
numbness and tingling in the
extremeties, dysuria, foul smelling
urine, fever
The drug is given every 6 hours to
maintain adequate urinary concentrations.
Give the drug with milk or food to reduce
GI side effects.

Quinolone antibiotics prevent bacteria from

Dose range-400mg twice daily for 7 to 10
days. Take 1 or 2 hours before or after
meals with a large glass of fluid.Do not
exceed 800 mg daily.

Side efects-nausea, diarrhea,abdominal
cramps, flatulence, drowsiness,
headache, dizziness, visual problems,
photo-sensitivity, hematuria, itching,
rash, hives, perineal burning, tinnitus
These antibiotics are effective in

Lioresal
Relaxes muscles by partially inhibiting
reflex activity at the spinal cord.
Used to manage muscle spasticity from MS,
spinal cord injury, and other spinal cord diseases. The goal of therapy is relief of muscle spasms.
Dose range-initial dose is 5mg 3 times a
day. May be increased by 5 mg every 3 to
7 days based on the persons response.
The best effects usually occur with 40
to 80 mg daily.
Routes-oral-10 and 20 mg tablets

2-5 for a total dose of 1.5g.
Routes-oral-250,500,600 mg tablets.
100,167,200,1000 mg/5mL suspension.
Side effects-diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
abnormal taste.
Used for respiratory, GI infections,

infections, STDs.

Side effects-sedation, drowsiness,
dizziness, blurred vision.
If antacids are ordered, give gabapentin
at least two hours after the last dose
of antacid. Antacids reduce the
absorbtion of the drug.
