Definition
A religion that was started by Abraham, the one chosen by God to be the "father" of the Hebrew people, in around 18000 BC. The Torah says that Abraham moved his people, the Hebrews, to Canaan, an area of ancient Palestine. The Hebrews were monotheistic and believed that their God was perfect, all-knowing, all powerful, and eternal. They had believed it was God's wish for people to live moral lives. This strengthened their social consciences.

Ten Commandments
Definition
A written code of laws that Moses had received from God sometime between 1300 and 1200 BC. These codes focused on morality and ethics rather than usual politics. Moses had received these codes on Mount Sinai. This code had rules of behavior that even rulers were subject to. This led to the belief that all individuals are capable of living according to high moral standards.

Definition
A religion that began when its Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth, was born in around 6 to 4 BC. Jesus' ideas stressed the importance of people's love for God., their neighbors, and their enemies. Jesus had visited Jerusalem at about 29 AD and was put to death by crucifixion. Because his followers stated that he rose from the dead 3 days later, he was known as the Messiah and the spreading of his belief began.

Definition
A religion that began and developed in southwest Asia in around the 600s. Its teachings are based off the prophet Muhammad, who emphasized the dignity of all human beings and the brotherhood of all people. Its followers, Muslims, were required to offer charity and help those in need, Since Islam was based off of the bond in its community, all people had eventually become tolerant towards many different groups in the community.

Definition
A religion developed from Roman Christianity shortly before the middle ages. It influenced basically all aspects of life such as religion and politics. By the Middle Ages, it had become the most powerful institution. Since it had gained so much power, it began to expect unquestioned obedience on its authority.

Definition
A classical movement that had spread over Italy and eventually all of Europe in the 1300s. The renaissance was started by a renewed interest in classical culture. Renassance thinkers explored many aspects such as education, earthly life, and government. Because individualism had become a big influence, many people demonstrated this with paintings, venturing, and taking risks.

Reformation
Definition
A religious movement started in Germany. In 1517, Martin Luther had criticized the Church's practice of selling pardons for sins. Other reformers, or Protestants, protested because of the Church's power and abuses. Because the reform had gone on for so long, a new religion, Protestantism, had formed.
