Definition
Caused by a hardy bacterium, Francisella tularensis
Also called ‘rabbit fever’
3-10 cases occur each year in Kansas
Most of the cases are transmitted by ticks
Other cases often occur by handling rabbits, contacting infected fluid, and consuming insufficiently cooked rabbit meat
Signs are of the disease include headache, fever, swollen and tender lymph glands, and a rash, about 14 days after exposure. 2-4% may die.

Caused by Borrelia burgdurferi and carried by 5 species of ticks

Mice are the reservoir
Symptoms: flu-like symptoms within 3-32 days, chronic inflammation, organ damage, and a distinct skin lesion
