DEPOLYING ROLES TO VHD’S

(Total Explanation)

Definition

Install Role while offline. In a Enterprise the administrator maintains VM. Add a role to a virtual HDD while offline. Can get there from server manager. In enterprise version most admins will maintain VM in Offline State. Selects VHD file.

Term
SERVER MANAGER
Definition

Allows us to install a role. We can install many servers. On local and 10 others at the same time.

Term
RAID 5
Definition

Strips data, in 64k chunks, and parity blocks across all of the disks. Write-Write-Parity. To make sure the block and its parity information are not stored on the same disk.

Term
STORAGE POOL
Definition

After the install of physical disk, you can catencate the spaces together in a storage pool. Then create a virtual disk any size.

Term
STRIPED AND SPANNED VOLUMES
Definition

Strip volume: The system writes data one strip at a time to each success disk one the volume. Example Drive C, D. Striped. 64k and 64k simultaneously on each drive. Span 64k on 1st, then when there is no room, goes to the next drive. Fill and go to next. Neither has fault tolerance. Strip slow, Span faster. Mirror the 64k chunks are identical.

Term
FOLDER SHARES
Definition

Support 2 types of folder shares. Server message blocks andNFS. Also access base enumeration. This prevents users from seeing files and folders they don’t have permission to access. Hidden share by file$. Have to map manually.

Term
EFFECTIVE ACCESS
Definition

Combination of allowed and denied permissions. The security principal receives for a given system element. Explicit permissions are expressly given. Implicit (implied) permissions are inherited. Effective permission is the most restrictive.  Share levels only work across the network. Give everyone control over share, then NTFS.

Term
PRINTING CONFIGURATIONS
Definition

Print device is the hardware. Print servers are what you install, the software. Software talks to the print device. Print pool are the physical devices (2 minimum).

Term
VIRTUALIZING SERVERS
Definition

Is based on the hypervisor module. Also called the Virtual Machine monitor. Hypervisor abstracts the physical hardware and creates multiple virtual hardware configurations. All virtual machines. The hypervisor creates a Virtual environment. Also creates individual environments called partitions. Each partition has its own Operating System and accesses the hardware via the hypervisor. Type II Virtualization is put host underneath. The host operates. Type I, puts the hypervisor. Type I does not rely on the host for access to the hardware. Each bloc are called child partitions. Type 1 loads hypervisor before the parent O/S. When we install a guest OS on child partition, it may not function properly n the OS that is there. Install guest integration services which allows the compatibility.

Term
VIRTUALATION ARCHITECTURES
Definition

Type II Virtualization puts a host OS underneath and the host OS hosts the virtual ones on top of that. Type I puts hypervisor on top of hardware with the OS on top of that. Parent O/S. Type I does not rely on host to access to hardware. Loads Hypervisor first, then the parent OS.

Term
GUEST INTEGRATION SERVICES
Definition

When we install a guest OS on child partition. It may not function in the OS environment that is currently there. Install guest integration services. Allows the compatibility to occur.

Term
DIFFERENCING DISKS
Definition

Enables to you preserve an existing virtual disk image in its original state. Take a snap shot of original set up and keep that pristine. We can reset.

Term
PASS THROUGH DISKS
Definition

Type of virtual disk that points to the physical disk itself on the host computer. Virtual to host.

Term
CREATING NEW VIRTUAL DISK
Definition

You can create any time. It is a file. You don’t have to add to a virtual machine. Do this via new virtual hard disk wizard in the Hyper-V manager

Term
EXTERNAL NETWORK SWITCH
Definition

Virtual networking architecture. Virtual network cards, then switches. External network switch that because it provides connections external to the Hyper-V environment. Take the virtual and create to the real world. Allows sit to hook to real world. Preferred arrangement in production environments

Term
MAC ADDRESS FOR VIRTUAL NETWORK ADAPTERS
Definition

Network cards have MAC addresses. They work with switches. In real network, there are MAC Addresses. Macs work with switches. We don’t have a real card and we need to create one. First 3 bytes 25 bits of mac range- always 00.15.5D, which is OUI, Organizational Unique Identifier, registered by Microsoft, 4-5 bytes are the last 2 bytes of the IP address, assignment to physical adapter in HEX, the last 6th byte contains a value from FF up to 256 possible addressees. How they get to 48 bits total.

Term
CLASSLESS INTERDOMAIN ROUTING
Definition

CIDR. Subnetting method that allows you to place the division between the network bits. The line in the sand. Wherever it has to be. The ones on the dots are classful interdomain routing.

Term
IP ADDRESS CLASSES USED FOR NETWORKS
Definition

A, B and C.

D and E are not used for networks.

Term
6 TO 4
Definition

We have Mixed networks, IPv4 and IPv6. Problem is sending IP6 info. We need to Encapsulate. There are 2 methods to encapsulate, do a IP Config /all we see we have both IP4 and IP6 configurations. Card is sending IP4 and IP6 packets. Dual Stack Environment. It can connect to any IP6 or IP4 device. By doing so we don’t have to encapsulate. But on the internet we can’t encapsulate. We use 6 to 4. Incorporates the IP4 connections of the network into the IP6 infrastructure. Take the IP4 addresses and express them in IP6 format, then encapsulate take the 6 traffic in the 4 packet.
