The Palette of Narmer
Definition
On one side there is a hole used to mixed kohl. Narmer is featured on this stone because his scale is so much bigger compared to his kneeling enemies. He was the king that unified upper and lower Egypt. His name was represented by pictographs of a catfish (Nar) and saw (Mur). On either side, frontal heads of the cow goddess Hathor indicate that she guards the kings palace. Horus (falcon headded god) is also on the palette. The side that depicts the pharaoh wearing the red crown is called the lower egypt side. White crown is for upper Egypt.

A grid was used so that identical multiples could be made. It could be adjusted to any scale. Shoulders and one visible eye are frontal; the head, arms, and legs are shown in profile. Waist is turned slightly but nearly in profile.

c. 1552-1079/ 14th century BC. The new pharaoh, Amenhotep decided he didnt want to worship the gods except for the sun god. So he left and started a kingdom in Amarna. He also changed his name to Akhetaten. During this period, female figures were more realistic. After Akhentaten died, Egypt became polytheistic again.

Akhetatens principal wife. Instead of wearing a traditional headdress, Nefetiti wears a tall crown, creating an elegant upward motion.
