Definition

1.  Forequarters & hindquarters must be restrained at all times.

2.  Most common method:  arms behind rump or under flank and in front of chest around neck, with head in crook of elbow, pulling dog in close w/ head at anterior shoulder.

3.  Always keep face away from dogs mouth.

4.  Rectal Exam:  Modify to place arm under ventral abdomen to prevent sitting.

Canine Sternal Recumbance
Definition

1.  One arm under neck with head in crook of elbow ~ C1, pulling close to anterior shoulder.

2.  If dog is standing, use other arm to gently push cranially behind stifle to encourage sitting.

3.  If dog is sitting, use other arm to gently push ventrally atop withers to encourage sternal recumbance.
