Term
PSNS
Definition
HR (-Chronotropic)
Gastric secretion (Motility)
Bladder emptying
Bowel emptying
Miosis (Papillary muscle CXN-pupil constriction)
Bronchial smooth muscle constriction
Term
SNS
Definition
HR (+Chronotropic)
BP (vasoconstriction)
Bronchial smooth muscle dilation
Shunting of blood (profuse vasoconstriction)
Mydriasis (pupil dilationfield of vision
Mobilization of stored energy glucose for brain and fatty acids for muscle activity
Term
Innervation Control
Definition
Most organs have dual innervation. When one system is activated it will cause the de-activation of the other or when one system is blocked it will cause the activation of the other.
Some organs have dual innervation which compliment each other. Ex: male reproduction: erection/ejaculation-PSNS/SNS,
A few have single innervation only. Ex: Blood vessels (SNS)
Term
PNS neurotransmitters 4 total
Definition
Acetycholine, Epinephrine, Norepinephrine, Dopamine
Term
Acetylcholine:
Definition
is the only transmitter for the PSNS, also the pre-ganglionic transmitter for the SNS
Term
Epinephrine
Definition
(Adrenaline): the main transmitter for the adrenal medulla
Term
Norepinephrine:
Definition
the post-ganglionic transmitter for the SNS
Term
Dopamine:
Definition
the role is undefined as yet through research
