Term
Motion
Definition
is a change in postition measured by distance and time.
Term
Speed
Definition
tells us the rate sat which an object moves
Term
Velocity
Definition
tells the speed and direction of a moving object
Term
Accerleration
Definition
tells us the rate speed or direction changes
Term
Gravity
Definition

Force that pulls objects toward each other

Force of gravity can change an objects speed, directon or both

Term
Law of Universal Gravitation
Definition

All objects in the universe attract each other gravitational force. Depends on: th masses of the objects and the distance between them.

Ex. Elephant and cat- easier to pick up a cat because its mass is smaller than elephants and therefore the gravitional for is smaller.

Ex. Sun and you- sun is more massive that earth; gravitationl force doesn't affect us because distance between the sun and earth

          as mass increases, gravitation

Force ↑

            as ditance increase, gravitional force↓

Term
Weight
Definition

measure of gravitational force on an object (here on Earth)

Weight changes when gravitional force changes

Term
Mass
Definition

is the amount of matter in an object-object's mass does not change

Convert mass ot weight-multiply by 9.8

to convert weight to mass- divide by 9.8

Term
Gravity and motion
Definition

Objects fall to the ground at the same rate because the accerleration due to gravity is the same for all objects.

A falling object accelerates at a constant rate- it falls faster and farther each second than it did the second before ( accerlation depends on both force and mass)

Acceleration due to gravity is 9.8 m/s/s
