Term
Hyperacute Bacterial Connjunctivitis etiologies and signs and symptoms
Definition
Nisseria gonorrhea, Nnisseriae, Miningiditis, Staph, Strep, Hameophilus, Moraxella; You will a lot of purency, chemosis, lids are involved; corneal involvement, perforation of the globe through the cornea, PAINFULL
Term
Nisseria gonorrhea (hyperactue conjunctivitis)
Definition
Common in neonates; Sexually active adolescents and young adults; Starts unilateral;
Term
Nisseriae Meningiditis (hyperacute conjunctivitis)
Definition
common in children; associated with systemic meningococcal infections
Term
1st Line of Therapy for Hyperacute bacterial Conjunctivitis (drug of choice in adults)
Definition
Ceftriaxone
Term
Ceftriaxone
Definition
1st line of therapy for hyperacute bacterial conjunctivitis; 3rd generation; DOC in adults; IV IM administrated; Bactericidial action; causes a defective peptiodglycan, inhibits cell membrane enzyme (alters permeability, inhibits protein synthesis; You don’t want to exceed 125 mg in children because of it’s toxicity;
Term
Ceftriaxone Kinetics and Adverse Effects
Definition
1. a single 0.5 g reconstituted to 350 mg/mL produces a serum concentration of approximately 38 ug/mL. 2. Main excretion in the urine dosage adjustment required for renal problems. Adverse Effects
Term
Cefixime
Definition
Treatment for Hyperacute Bacterial Connjunctivitis, 3rd generation; Oral adjuct therapy; Bactericidal action; causes a defective peptidoglycan, inhibits cell membrane enzyme (alters permeability), inhibits protein synthesis; Kinetics – about 40-50% absorbed whether administered with or without food, but time to maximal absorption is slightly delayed when administered with food. 200 mg dose produces 3 ug/mL. Main excretion in the urine (dosage adjustment necessary)
Term
Cefixime Adverse Effects
Definition
Hypersensitivity in the for of rash, urticaria, angioedema, pruritus (itch); 10-15% cross allergenicty penicillin; Nephrotoxicty; Diarrhea, abdominal flatulence, dyspepsia; pseudomembranous colitis
Term
Fluoroquinolone
Definition
Used as topical therapy for Hyperacute Bacterial Conjunctivitis;
Term
Alternative systemic Therapy For Hyperactue Bacterial Conjunctivitis
Definition
Aqueous Peniciliin G
Term
Aqueous Penicillin G (5MIU vials) (IV)
Definition
Alternative Treatment for Hyperacute Bacterial Conjunctivitis: Bactericidal action, binds to peniciliin binding protein to inhibit transpeption; Forms weak cell wall causing lysis; Also causes the production of autolysins; Adminstered IV; used against: Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Neisseriaes, Susceptible to penicillinase; Kinetics – excretion is urinary, dosage adjustment necessary in patient with low creatinine clearance
Term
Treatment Drugs of Hyperacute Bacterial Conjunctivitis
Definition
Ceftriaxon (DOC), Cefixime, Fluoroquinolone
