** Most common type of drug eruption; it has been reported in response to nearly every drug.  Starts on the face or upper chest and can extend to limbs.  Can be asymptomatic or pruritic.   Begins 7-14 days after start of drug if first exposure or 1-3 days if a reexposure.  Generally not life threatening and does not proceed to anaphlaxis.

**Target lesions are characteristic of erythema multiforme.  It is a symmetric eruption with a prediliction for the palms soles, dorsal surfaces of the hand, and extensor surfaces of the forearms and legs.  May be accompanied by a mild prodrome of fever, pharyngitis, and cutaneous lesions that are usually asymptomatic or may burn or itch slightly.
Pathophysiology: It is a reaction pattern to a variety of etiologic agents.  The most common is herpes simplex (also drugs: sulfonamides, nsaids, penicillin, etc)
