Definition
there is a signficant association between REM sleep and reporteed dreaming.
Term
what was the sample in this study and what was a weakness of it?
Definition
The samples was 9 adults (7 male and 2 female), 5 who were studied intensely. They were all from the USA. However, the sample was drawn just from America, so it was not generalisable.
Term
What two quantitative measures were recorded in this study?
Definition
One was the number of dreams recalled after REM and NREM sleep. The seocnd was the accuracy of dream length after 5 or 15 mins of REM sleep.
Term
give one strength and one weakness of quantitative data
Definition
Quantitative data allows for identification of patterns of behavior or can be used to calculated averages. Weakness is that quantitative data gives no explanation for why the behavior has occured and it is quite meaningless.
Term
What were the results of Dement and Klietmans' study?
Definition
More dreams were recalled from REM sleep than NREM (152:11), more correct presidctions of length of REM than incorrect (92:18 ,strong correlation between REM patterns and dream content.
Term
State a way that this study could be improved and how it could affect results
Definition
You could make sure that the sample was beigger and less andocentric/ethnocentric, in order to make it more representive. This would affect the results by allowing more data to be analysed, which would be make the results more generaliseable.
