Term
What are the characteristics of all living things?
Definition
  • Respond to their environment.
  • Are organized.
  • Develop.
  • Grow.
  • Use energy.
  • Reproduce.
Term
What are the different biological levels of organization?
Definition

Simple to Complex:

Atoms, Molecules, Macromolecules, Organelles, Cells, Tissues, Organs, Organ Systems, Organisms.

Cells are the basic unit of all living things.

Term
What is homeostasis?
Definition

Homeostasis is the ability to maintain balanced conditions inside the body by adjusting physiological processes.

Examples: Water, acidity levels, temperature.

Term
What is a metabolism?
Definition

A metabolism is all the chemical reactions your body performs to make and use energy.

Example: Eating, disgestion and elimination of waste.

Synthesis is building molecules.

Cellular respiration is making energy.

Term
What is reproduction?
Definition
Reproduction is the ability of an organism to produce viable offspring. It ensures the survival of the species.
Term
What does it mean to grow and develop?
Definition

To grow, an organism must change in size.

To develop, it must change in shape/appearance necessary for reproduction.
