Most often d/t blood loss via GI bleeding
Rx: iron to increase RBC synthesis
PO: give through straw w/ elixir (stains teeth. Very constipating; may decrease other drugs (tetracycline) - 2h rule
Parenteral: iron dextran given Z track method
Give test dose to test for allergy

d/t decreased intrinsic factor, gastrectomy or veggie diet
Rx: cyanocobalamin every day for 1-2wks; wkly until normalized H&H; then every 1-2 months for life
