Nerve Innervaton: lateral and medial pectoral nerves
Blood Supply:Pectoralis branch of thoracoacromial artery, lateral thoracic artery
Term
Pectoralis Minor
Definition
Origin: external surfaces of the third through fifth rib
Insertion: medial border of the coracoid process
Action: all movements of the scapula
Nerve innervation: medial pectoral nerve
Blood Supply: Lateral thoracic artery
Term
Rhomboid Major and Minor
Definition
Origin: ligamentous nuchae and spinous processes of c7 to t5
Insertion: medial border of scapula from root of the spine to inferior angle
Action: help retract scapula
Nerve innervation: dorsal scapular nerve
Blood supply: Dorsal scapular artery
Term
Serratus Anterior
Definition
Origin: external surface of the lateral region of the first 9 ribs
Insertion: entire medial border of the scapula with a concentration with the fibers near the inferior angle
Action: protraction of scapula
Nerve innervation: the long thoracic nerve
Blood supply: Lateral thoracic artery, thoracodorsal artery
Term

Action:Stabilizing clavicle
Nerve innervation: subclavian nerve
Blood Supply:Clavicular branch of thoracoacromial artery
Term
Subscapularis
Definition
Origin: subscapular fossa
Isertion: lesser tubercle of the humerus and part of the capsule of the glenohumeral joint
Action:Medial rotation of humerus
Nerve innervation: upper and lower subscapular nerves
Blood Supply: Branches of subscapular artery
Term
supraspinatus
Definition
Origin: supraspinatus fossa
Insertion: upper facet of greater tubercle of the humerus and part of the capsule fo the glenohumeral joint
Action: abduction of arm, stabilizes shoulder joint
Nerve innervation: suprascapular nerve
Blood Supply:Suprascapular artery
Term
Teres Major

Origin: inferior angle of the scapula
Insertion: crest of the lesser tubercle of the humerus
Action: abduction and rotation of arm, stabilizes shoulder
Nerve innervation: lower subscapular nerve
Blood Supply:Thoracodorsal artery
Term
Teres Minor
Definition
Origin: posterior surface of the lateral border of the scapula
Insertion: lower fact of the great tubercle of the humerus and part of the capsule of the glenohumeral joint
Action: abduction and rotation of the arm, stablizes shoulder
Nerve innervation: axillary nerve
Blood Supply:Scapular circumflex artery
Term
Trapezius
Definition
Origin: medial part of superior nuchal line, external occipital protuberance, ligamentum nuchae, spinous processes and supraspinous ligaments of the 7th cervial vertebrae and all thoracic vertebrae
Insertion: upper part posterior superior edge of the lateral third of the clavicle, middle part medial margin of the acromion and upper lip of the spine of the scapula, lower part medial end of the spine of the scapula just lateral to the root
Action: rotates, elevates, and retracts scapula
Nerve innervation: primarily by the spinal accessory nerve (cranial nerve 11) secondary innervation directly from the ventral rami of c2-c4
